I recently bought a 1978 chevy C-10 shortbed, fleetside pickup truck. It is a three speed manual transmission and there are problems with the linkage. The linkage rod that controls 1st and 2nd gear works when shifting into first, but second isn't always there. I have checked many times and the bolt that goes into the tranny from the linkage seems to get vibrated loose.. i have put threadlock on it and it hasn't helped. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Ayup! I remember those. They would jam up right under the master cylinder too. Instead of thread lock you can either buy a nut that will have dimples in the outer hex that won't undo or just get the correct hardware store nut and hit it with a hammer till it's just slightly oval and it will stick. Those were screwing up when they weren't that old and sometimes just the weight of the linkage would jam you such that you could select another gear until you got out and pulled up on the linkage. I think my last few of those I put a spring on the linkage to counter the weight so it wouldn't fall by itself, T
