See if it shift fine with engine off. IF yes than there's a high chance the master or slave cylinder has failed. Check fluid level for it. If way too low find out why. Can be hard to know if master or slave cylinder, a flexible hose or mechanical part of how it works. If not in general poor shape, rusty or abused by anything I think slave cylinders are most likely. Some very hard to replace and bleed out properly.
