I have a Windstar 98, that shifts hard going from first to second , and from second to third . And the transmission leaks real bad after driving 30 min, or longer . Is this something I can repair myself , or is it heading for the SHOP ? (sorry i used a four letter word)

We allow that four letter word and don't give a "shop" about that oneWink

Shifting and a leak problem. Are you able to keep it full and when so does it shift well till low perhaps? Look for that leak as it just might be the whole problem. You may have to wash it all off to find the source and just maybe that's it but it doesn't sound real good,

I,m able to keep fluid level up , and no notice-able problems on the down shift or overdrive . Crazy

Guess: See if you can find what is leaking. Improper pressure might be causing the problem??
