Recently, my car's check engine light came on. I had the code checked, and it read P0720. That code in in reference to an Output Speed Sensor. Most people seem to report that when the Output Speed Sensor has an issue, their speedometer stays steady on the wrong speed. However, my car's speedometer jumps from 5 to 95 whenever I drive it. I have the other issue associated with an Output Speed Sensor, including transmission not shifting into 4th (most of the time). I'm wondering if since my speedometer works perfectly sometimes, (for a whole day), if the Output Speed Sensor needs to be replaced, or if it could be some other issue. 2001 - Year of vehicle Dodge - Make of vehicle Stratus - Model of vehicle 2.4L (146) DOHC SMPI 16-VALVE 4-CYL - Engine 190328 Miles - Mileage Thank you so much!

It doesn't have to be bad every second to still be bad. If the sensor causes a problem even occasionally, it is still bad. It's always possible the issue is with the related wiring instead of the sensor itself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

check the OSS price. @20$ I think at 100$ an hour diagnostic charge the math says changing sensor is cheaper than testing it... clean connector be sure it fits tight

Hello, The speed sensors do go bad quite often, if you happen to change the senor and the problem is still there, then there is a problem with the wiring and the problem is usually right at the connector where it plugs into the sensor, if thats the case a repair harness is available for the output speed sensor.
