97 Dakota PO783 tranny code fault (help) Sign In

97 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L automatic with 82,000m. This is a 3rd/4th shift malfunction flag via the TCM. Unknown how long it's been there, not too long as far as I know. Drives and cylces thru gears okay. The only hiccup i've noticed is - recently while accelerating up hill, it wouldn't go above 35-40mph for a short spell and then it righted itself (after stopping and shutting the vehicle off for a short spell).

My question(s) are:
1. how much damage to the tranmission might have already been done, and what might I expect to have done to it in repairs ?
2. will a transmission flush and filter change help out with this problem ? i don't think this has ever been done before.
3. any idea what $$ i'm facing if the 783 fault is to be repaired ?
