ive replaced the shift solenoids and tcc solenoid...helped problem some but my speedo goes crazy bouncing from 15 to 65 when problem occurs. trans will all of a sudden not want to shift properly...acts like the old transmissions did when a vacuum modulator goes bad but i dont have the white smoke from engine sucking atf from modulator...have not pulled codes it is obd1...any help please....

That year doesn't support flash code diagnostics. You'll need an enhanced scan tool to retrieve codes. Could be a vehicle speed sensor signal error causing your erratic speedo and trans shifting issue. Could be wiring, connector, or speed sensor fault. You need a graphing multimeter or scope to see signal. Visual inspection of the speed sensor and harness should be the first order of business. Speed sensor is located in final drive cover near the right inboard CV axle joint. It is a two wire PM generator that produce an AC voltage sign wave that increases in amplitude and frequency as vehicle speed increases.

ok changed the VSS same problems occurring...wiring and connector all look good...could it be the vacuum mod. on side??? any other opinions please...thanx

That doesn't mean squat. Wiring commonly breaks internally and cannot be seen. The wiring has to be tested with an ohmmeter while being wiggled.

thanx...will do...do i need to get back inside of trans or can i check outside from plug to harness connector???
