I have a old "beater" car as I like to call it that I use for communting. I am experiencing what I think is transmission problems. I noticed a couple weeks ago when driving to work that when I would accelerate particuarly going up hill the transmission would not shift into the next gear until I let off the gas and then gave it more gas. Last week as I was driving home as I would let off the gas I would get a jerk feeling as it seemed to try and down shift. Then when I got it home I could only barely move on even the slightest incline giving it full gas. I checked the fluid and it is fine, my dad has a garage and would be willing to help me replace the tranny if I got a different. Does this sound like a transmission problem that would warrant that? Or could it be something smaller?

If the fluid is o.k., I would be assuming that its an electrical problem within its control box like the t/c lock-up solenoid or a speed sensor.
