4l60e no reverse after rebuild Sign In

2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 reg cab, 4.3, auto, 2wd. 165k miles. Basic work truck. Bought off eBay, runs good, bad trans. Disassembled trans, appeared to be fresh rebuild, pump rotor broken, as if someone installed with out seating torque converter. Repaired pump, since upper clutches were new, didn't go deeper... Yea, my bad. Now have all 4 forward gears, shifts normal. No reverse. Is there something simple I've missed, or can check? Any help would be appreciated. Not looking forward to pulling it out again!!

I think you're going to have to pull it again. Look in the reverse input drum and down in the bottom of the case at the L/R clutch pack. When I lost reverse on my Suburban I had everything looking near new in the reverse input drum but the L/R clutches were fried.

Did you replace the sunshell with an upgraded one when you had it apart? Common pattern failure with them, and when they break you lose 2, 4 and R. You said you have all your forward gears so I'm leaning toward a bad L/R clutch pack. Real easy to tear a lip seal in there. Also, did you put a TransGo shift kit in it? Was the separator plate in good shape still?

I'm afraid your right, Nick. I didn't build the unit, I bought the truck as is, eBay, trans was totally non functional. when I opened the unit the first 2 clutch sets were new, not like new, "new" as in never run. I then found the pump rotor broken. I assumed that former owner picked up an exchange rebuilt, and broke pump installing. I just fixed pump, buttoned it up, and put it back. Now I'm back to square one. Not being an expert, I was hoping someone, could offer advice/info. But thanks for that input.
