2011 Mazda RX8 6spd manual very strange problem…
Car has 110,000 miles and these transmissions are know for being fairly solid. My issue starts after several miles or after some aggressive driving. So after everything is good and hot it seems. At this point it grinds going into 1st. HOWEVER…. If I shift straight up to 3rd and then move over to 1st it’ll slide in smooth as butter everytime. I just changed the fluid and there was NO metal shavings. I flushed and bled the clutch. I changed the clutch master cylinder. I’ve played with the clutch pedal adjustment…. Nothing helps.
Now I should probably add that I recently acquired this car under the rouse that the engine and transmission had just been rebuilt and the clutch was replaced. The engine had great compression numbers so I believed the guy. A rotary engine with 110k would definitely show declining compression had it not been recently rebuilt. Anyway… I’m at a loss. I’m hoping someone here has some idea that I’ve yet to think of. Please help !!!
WHY HAVE THE ROTARY GODS FORSAKEN ME ?!?!?!?!??!!!

Our trans expert Gary will be along eventually but I'll give you my opinion now.

I think the symptoms point to a clutch that is not completely disengaging and the 1st gear synchros are probably not in good shape. Shifting it to 3rd first slows down the momentum of the input shaft so the gears will mesh easier.
