2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Van. It has approx. 150,000 miles. It has a 3.6 L engine. The transmission started slipping...I'd be stopped and when I'd start to go the van wouldn't move. Finally, it would jump forward and go. The mechanic found a cracked fly wheel when he removed the first "rebuilt transmission". He replaced the fly wheel, rebuilt the transmission, and installed it. That fixed nothing…the van had the same problem. Since then, he has rebuilt another transmissions using "Dodge parts", etc.. He finally could drive my van this last time he rebuilt the transmission. He said, "it did ok while it was cold. When it got hot, it started making a funny sound, then it sounded like something broke. He checked the transmission fluid and it was a silver, metallic color and he found metal shavings in the transmission fluid. The transmission is computer controlled and he's done what the computer told him to do but it just won't work. He was recommended to me, he has a 2 stall shop, and he only works on transmissions. He says he's never had this happen before. I'm 62 years old, my husband has medical problems, and I have been without my van for 2 months - plus. I have already paid him $2700. Can someone please give me some advice as to what may have happened to the transmission, or what I should do? Thank you.

That would be considered a comeback and he should be able to get another transmission and absorb the labor. You shouldn't pay for anything after the second go around. Hard to say what happened to the transmission without actually tearing it down to see what broke inside. Honestly he should just eat it and get a good low mileage used transmission from a wrecked vehicle. Then refund you the difference. Why did it take 2 months? Was there a problem with getting parts? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Sorry, I just got back on this page so that I can update this "saga". He kept the van 2 months because he kept saying he had fixed it but when he would test drive it something would happen..."it would make a loud sound"...and then it would start doing what it did to begin with. He would have to take it apart, reorder parts, and put it back together again.

I gave the mechanic a week to get the transmission fixed. I was amazed that at the end of the week when I contacted him he said it was fixed! He said he had taken the trans apart and checked everything again and found that the trans pump was faulty so he replaced it and it drove fine. I picked it up yesterday, drove it home, (20 min.) and parked it. Today I drove it into town, (30 min). Once I got into stop and go traffic the trans started slipping again - doing the exact thing it did in the first place. it wouldn't "shift" into it's different gears at all. I had to drive it back home at 25rpms. I called him and said I want a refund. He said he wasn't authorized to give a refund and he would work on it again. If he hasn't been able to fix it in 2 1/2 months I don't think he will be able to fix it period! Could someone tell me what kind of attorney I should get?

This is a sad and bad joke. This person or place shouldn't be taking on trans work - many don't they (where I am) send them out but should be able to tell it's a real transmission problem. Legal action: OMG - that's sad too to have to go that far. Find out who owns the place if this person has no say except excuses and BS find out who does. You may need to pay for a second diagnosis in writing I wouldn't mention the other place and just ask or search out legal help and ask if they will take this on. Lots will help if you have a time line, receipts. This not my thing at all. Fust an FYI was asked once to testify for a person with a newly rebuilt motor that blew up to bits and saw the car which was build up to drag race with and rubber bits all over the place told him YOU ARE AT FAULT and don't want me to help! Good luck with some satisfaction. If you go for it don't forget lost time for use of your vehicle there's a price for that! Tom
