Noticed my car shift hard today and when i checked the fluid, it had a lot of bubbles on the stick and the fluid seemed watery. replaced the filter and fluid about 20,000 miles ago. car does have 275,500 miles on it. Any thoughts?

275K speak volumes alone if possible trans is original call Ripley's. Bubbles - no good in any hydraulic item, really wont know if level is correct and would be erratic. Can you define what you mean "watery" a bit more? Contaminated or just seemed thin? Totally would matter. IDK - Change fluid again as the property of trans fluid is to squelch bubbles and new or better fluid should help or if that many miles can kill the trans -your call. You can also pull codes on it to see what shows. So far with bubbles note I think level or fluid isn't right and can't know alone if that caused damage or would get better if that was solved, T

the tranny is the original. Im the second owner, father in law was original owner. original alternator didn't go until 246,000. i drive 278 miles a day with this car. i checked the fluid today after i got home and no bubbles. the fluid just seemed thin, but i was told today that type of fluid is thinner than what i may have been use to in the past. don't know how true that is, as this is the first Hyundai i have ever owned. I noticed it has started to kick down on small inclines where it never has before. i put a can of sea foam tranny conditioner in it today.

Call Ripley's now! Hey - It owes you nothing so if you can tolerate the chances of just the miles without any symptoms go ahead and try to change out ALL fluid with a know quality fluid. ???? How long does something last? Really can't say even at these miles. Trans is a wear item just lubed all the time and if many steady all highway miles and not abused can last like that. IDK but most the dependability drops way off much sooner of just wear items, bands, clutch plates, drums and tons more that moves. They don't tell you on ATF what viscosity it is or a choice - just use what it calls for exactly. TMK it's about 5w if you think in terms of engine oil. Properties are to flow fast cold and tolerate heat, highly detergent and NOT bubble or foam up specifically. Most use the car's radiator to cool/moderate the temp of fluid and they can mix there if that breaks inside radiator and wreck transmissions fast. That shows as usually milky look or if ATF goes to engine coolant also milky messy yuk - neither good news. #1 is transmissions hate excessive heat which thins oil or worse can make oil sticky in spots or worse again turn black and super now abrasive and game over near 100% for those. Said, try changing fluid AYOR that it might move debris unseen and kill it quicker or help. Best I can suggest with info at hand, T
