2002 lancer can’t find trans filter Sign In

Hello all, I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer gli CE automatic.
It has 162,000 km on the clock and over the past eeek it has been Revving really high then a few days ago it would lock up when I stopped at the lights I would rev and it would kick back in to gear and go, I have emptied the atf and I’m looking to find the trans filter but every video and forum it’s in the location on the top of the trans but mine doesn’t seem to be. If anyone can help me locate it before I pull it to bits that would be great, or if you believe that the transmission is too far gone that would be helpful also thanks all. :)

Not my specialty but have a clue. It's showing it's either a remote spin on like an oil filter for engine or you take trans apart. Hope it's the spin on one LOOK for it like this if my look up is accurate web is full of errors? That for the car if sold to the US can always be all different if specs are different for another original destination when it was new,

Good luck,
T

If it has one it should be threaded right into the top of the transmission, near the radiator.

Nice! Hope it is that one. Odd I found a suggestion for this car for 1st start up rev engine a bit first before taking off so it would shift OK right away!! Guess that's to fill the oil filter so pressure is up to spec no surprises? T

There are two filters on that tranny. The spin on is used to filter the oil cooler. There is another filter inside the transmission, but you have to take the transmission apart to get to it. If the internal one plugs up, the transmission needs to be overhauled or replaced.

Hello,
That is a spin on cooler return filter, you can't really just put any spin on oil filter(FYI) they are usually a specific type of filter. Gary
