I have a 2000 Blazer 2wd with an automatic transmission ( 188,000 miles). When starting from a dead stop the truck seems like it has its brakes engaged. The engine roars and the truck only inches forward. It doesnt seem to be slipping and the engine appears to be under a load. It shifts fine and is full of fluid although the fluid is black.

Reverse is fine. There is an engine code but I believe it was present before this problem. I will run the codes tomorrrow. Thanks

Ok, next question, when in drive, pull the shifter down to manual one and see if it pulls ok or the same way. Gary

I seemed to notice today that if i start from manual 1 it works fine. Also this is an intermittent problem not a constant one.

Hello, ok, your problem is your low sprag or one way clutch is no good, this trans would have to come out to be fixed. The low sprag is located in the center support of this unit. trans is called 4L60E.Gary

? "Feels like brakes dragging" Sorry if all wrong but if this has drum rear brakes they MIGHT BE sticky for real! If not disregard this but if so check them and where shoe touches backing plate as they can dig a slot and the shoe can stick. If so, just lift shoes and carefully grease, or take off and smooth out backing plate or if real bad replace it if so. It's not common but some drum rears brakes can last for ages and tons of miles so don't get new grease being redone depending on how it's used yadda, yadda and when so a pest but need to take them apart and lube up like you would doing a brake job even if parts are OK. Just a maybe that could make you think it's trans or brake or not know. Backing up first might kick it out of it for a moment now but not fix it, T
