07 Durango - From dead stop transmission will not initially engage

I have an 07 Durango that I recently purchased. It has about 130000 miles and has recently began to have transmission problems. It shifts beautifully while driving but when i initially start from a complete stop the motor accelerates but the car does not move for several seconds then it leaps forward even chirping the tires. Is this a problem of severe transmission problems or could i be lucky enough that there is a simpler solution.

Have you checked the fluid level? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hello, When you check the fluid level, make sure the car is in neutral, some crysler and dodge vehicles when in park does not go through the cooler, it just exhaust right back into the pan, in neutral it flows through the cooler. Also, read both sides of the stick and if the level is different, go with the lower side. If its low, than you may have a leak. Gary

You just acquired this vehicle- Hmmm a thought - vehicle in drive the RPM raise up and NO movement- and there is NO CEL? Might want to get the system scanned - easy and FREE- post ALL codes if you get some. Use only the correct trans fluid if you need to - mopars are funny about correct fluid.

First of all this is an 00 Durango. Mistype, sorry. I had a mechanic come out and make a scan and a lit of codes came up but unfortunately I did not save them. He suggested that all I needed was a filter kit and new fluid. Also the fluid turned out to be about 2 quarts low. The mechanic now tells me he needs $150 to install filter kit and he will not guarantee if this will solve the problem. Since adding fluid the transmission shifts smoothly but still jerks from a stop where it was put in park or reverse. It also has a clicking sound when initially put in first gear. Is the filter kit a reasonable possible solution and is $150 a reasonable cost to put it inl

that list of codes is important it will guide the repair- scans are FREE at autozone, advance auto, orielys etc. You did use ATF 4 - trans fluid? 150$ for a filter, gasket, fluid labor and disposal.... in the ball park, 25$ gasket and filter, 35$ fluid, 1hr labor. BUT those codes are needed to advise you.

I used fluid specifically for a Chrysler product. I will go to Auto Zone tomorrow to get the codes assuming he has not erased them. Thanks

The only code that came up was P1494. When the other mechanic read the codes it seemed it was about a dozen so I will drive the truck for a dozen or so miles to see if any come back. Also, I think these codes came up prior to adding fluid.
