So my father's truck that he uses for work has recently started this problem where the steering wheel gets so tight when the cars at a standstill its almost impossible to turn but once the car begins to roll the steering wheel loosens. The steering isn't always like this sometimes it's smooth with no problem but it will tighten all of a sudden not sure what can be the problem I don't have much knowledge on cars and want to learn how to help my father fix this issue

Which engine? 4wd?

Have you checked the power steering fluid level? Is the power steering belt in good shape and not slipping?

3.4L v-6

How is the belt that drives the power steering pump? if it is loose or worn out the belt can slip on the pump pulley and cause loss of power steering.
