I am purchasing a 1997 Subaru Legacy Brighton, 2.2 liter engine. When turning the steering, either left or right, the steering becomes increasingly difficult as the turning radius decreases. As the steering becomes more labored, the engine RPM becomes increasingly more labored. This anomaly is more pronounced in reverse (ie: backing from a parking space) .

Get a full code reading even if no warning lights are on. AWD a slight question for me that it somehow isn't differentiating properly meaning wheels are making different arcs of a circle that isn't compensated and would/could feel like a steering issue. However the engine is supposed to cover the load of steering holding engine speed up to reasonable with that load and either a fault detecting the load or excessive load IMO? You may want a tech to feel this in person and take down the codes. Post #s not just interpretations, T

Before you buy the vehicle have it fully inspected by a reputable repair shop. You may be getting something that had been wrecked at one time or needs a lot of work that can cost you lots of money. A small fee to have the thing checked out can save you money. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Good catch DS! Yes - pre purchase get this checked and fixed BEFORE the sale. No telling right this second how much trouble or not this really is? T
