2010 hyundai accent creaking noise when turning steering wheel Sign In

Hi. I have a 2010 accent gls. It has 105k. I replaced the struts, outer tie rods (not inner), and sway bar links about 2 yrs. ago. I am getting a creaking noise from the front passenger side when turning the steering wheel in either direction. It is a creaking just like when stepping on a wooden floor. It has been cold lately here (western NY) and the noise is almost gone now. I saw a youtube video that had the same exact noise (link below). It sounds just like when he puts the window down. the comments say it is most likely the control arm/ball joint. Should I replace both. How would I diagnose which part needs to be replaced? I can do the repair work. i'm just not good at diagnosing the problem . Thanks

You should never replace anything on the advice of some guy that made a youtube video.

This noise can be coming from anything that rotates when the wheels turn to include
tie rod ends
ball joints
strut plates
rack and pinion

Just because something was replaced 2 years ago does not eliminate it now. I have seen brand new parts make noise because the person that installed them did not lube them.

The way you find this problem is to reach under the car and touch each component as a helper moves the steering wheel to trigger the noise. When you touch the right component you will feel the internal vibration the noise causes.

Just be VERY CAREFUL where you put your fingers as the wheels turn. Do not get them pinched in the wrong place. This has enough force to break fingers or hand easily.

Cars are pretty low so just suggesting hoisting BOTH front wheels - PROPERLY with jack stands. Just to see + hear with a helper steering it. Not so easy by yourself.
Hammer made the list that I would. Dang cold blew in where I am with the rains as well. In MA, cars don't like that and not so special to work in either.
Think of things that get invaded by salted water in Winters even the strut plate mentioned if original IDK.
YouTube? Same - don't take just any garbage out there as yours it wasn't even your brand of car not the whole point you need to find it on YOURS not someone else's,

I don't suggest that. Taking the weight off the wheels will likely make the sound disappear.

Put stands under control arm close to ball joint is weight (most) of the car as if on ground. Stinks if you don't have two floor jacks and place to do it AND the helper.
Sometimes you see a reason other times feel for it. Dumb luck it won't do it when you go looking for it but know it doesn't belong,

It was the strut. I had it in the air and it was still making the noise. I couldnt pinpoint it so I took it in paid the $26 diagnostic charge for the suspension evaluation (not bad) , and they told me it was the strut mount . i guess there is a bearing in there? I didnt know thAT. Its a trq strut from 1a auto parts that i installed 3 yrs ago. Best part of this is I called them and they said it's under warranty so they sent me out a new one! Wasn't expecting that!

$26 well spent! Nice that new one is on them, usually you should want a pair of things like that, that match but see how it works out.
Why R. side. That hits the puddles and holes on side on roads takes a hit harder.
In doing this if yourself try scribing how it's bolted to bottom or paint and get new back as close as possible. It still calls for an alignment if you removed one for any reason at least get it real close.
This should be doable power tools for those bottom bolts really help. IF ready to install lots easier on you,
