All, Ill start by saying that i am not very experienced mechanically. The problem is when i am turning i can feel a knock in the steering. Also when i first start the car and i am backing out of the space, sometimes i hear what sounds like the tire rubbing against something. Also a couple of times it felt a bump, like i ran over something. I had to get out of the car to make sure i didnt run anything over. Also when i am driving it sometimes sounds like something is rattling in the front end. This isnt the first time i have had a knock in the steering. About 6 months ago, the mechanic recommended that i replace the rack and pinion steering gear. I did and that seemed to solve the problem, until now. ALso the dealer has previously replaced the power steering pump that was recalled. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

without being there to drive it, can really give you a concrete answer. Could be an intermediate steering shaft making that noise. That is a common problem and a lot of techicians make the mistake of replacing the rack and pinion. You have to remove the I shaft to get the rack off, so you accidentally lubricate the shaft by stroking it up. After installing another rack, the noise in the shaft goes away for a period of time till the grease works its way down again. There is a technical service bulletin for noises on that vehicle. You should have your mechanic check that out. TSB 04-03-08-006F Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
