2005 Honda Accord 2.4 Rack & Pinion Sign In

Are remanufactured rack and pinion reliable? I live in the Philippines. My rack needs to be replaced, but ordering from overseas is costly and makes return of defective units impractical. I had unsuccessful seal replacement by a local shop. A different local shop told me that they couldn't guarantee any remanufactured rack installation. Also had purchased new pump, but I put the old pump back on to prevent damage to the new one because I decided to drive without power steering for the last year due to the expense and uncertainty of a successful repair. Now bearings have gone in pump. I still have the new pump, but don't know what I should do about a rack. I need some experienced wisdom please. Contemplating putting a used pump in to keep driving with out power steering.

New racks are fairly rare. We most always use reman rack units but they don't have 100% reliability like any other reman part.

You likely will also have to ship the old one back to them as a core.

Asking where do your parts come from if you look them up a right hand drive (wheel on left) country surrounded by left hand drive to make this harder?

IDK if searching out the world how well you could make out for every part used and well documented that items came from a reliable source.

Rocks and hard places before anything gets done. You mentioned the shipping costs - understood reman anything want a cheap core and not return it or just find it was rejected as a core??

This stuff new has to be costly as all get out unheard of to me zillions of assorted wrecked/salvage parts for a popular car despite now older.

Shops should be doing this for you IDK the choices you have, you will sooner.

It's all costly any which way you go risks to every choice - that just parts never mind a proper fix. IDK but would take the right shop(s) first this would call for an alignment when DONE if not local another snag. I feel for you having to be part of a repair at all just pay isn't so easy - good luck, Tom
