I have a manual 1991 s10 I just bought a week ago, had the loose steering wheel, so I just swapped the column from an 89 blazer since I could get one for free. The blazer was an automatic, and I don’t know if this has to do with it. It shifted fine before, then once I changed it out, the clutch doesn’t engage. I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence that it happened at the same time, but if I start it in first with clutch all the way in, it will jump and stall like I lifted the clutch. It will also grind if I try to put it in reverse.

I don't thing column of an automatic is compatible all the way thru firewall? Clutch pivot hardware is not "disengaging" clutch apparently, not hooked up at all needs YOU to look hard at the two. Time to do that was with both outside, see what is or isn't the same, welded, bolted or what. IDK, S-10 dash was used in assorted "rest of thing vehicles" PU trucks, Blazer I forget but think plain 2WD perhaps one with floor shift vs column shift has to matter. Answer will be fix (go surfing for parts) or exact right one. Good news is these are popular to play with and alter, lower or raise whole body bet stuff is pre-made for about anything? Tom Tom

Have you checked the clutch fluid level? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Old forums on the internet I had found say it is, and I had compared both parts prior, and the only difference was the automatic linkage going through the fire wall.

Yes, the fluid level is good, and there are no leaks when pushing on clutch

If it hasn't lost any fluid then the problem has to be a bad clutch master.

So.......with helper watch it move underhood while pushing down. If hydraulic (IDK none known to me) layout requires "free-play" > a finger push area, then resistance is real pushing. Note a working one that area is reduced on most or self wears out clutches when accelerating or under load, T

There is nothing to see on this vehicle. All movement occurs inside an enclosed bellhousing.

OK - still it's just not disengaging. IDK in swapping column if involving removal of pivot went wrong. If pushrod too short to master because of that, that's it. If a bushing was used how it's pedal is held if lost. IDK, all I owned or drove would "zip" for reverse or stop shafts by putting in another gear first quickly wouldn't. Reverse isn't synchro in ones (any make) is tell-tale of a clutch engaged or IDK warped shouldn't be from this. Go back to what was done something went wrong didn't catch attention, Tom
