Ac won't work unless bypass fuse. Sign In

I have a Chevy,Silverado, 2000, with 5.3 L engine.
My A.C. only works if I take out fuse and put in a wire to bypass it. Then compressor runs and I have to pull wire when I turn off engine or battery runs down.
Is there an easy fix to this?
I have tried new fuses and didn't work.
Thanks. New to forum.

Should I call the fire department or will you?

Uggh! Don't do that of course. Seems like a moot question but take it with fuse it blows the fuse? Otherwise if just hard wiring a fuse WHERE fuse goes a fuse should work or blow. Which is it or by-passed totally some other way you'll regret that,

Hello, and thanks for your words of wisdom.
No fuse doesn't blow or pop.
I've tried replacing fuse and still won't run.
Only runs when I put a small wire in it.
Then I pull wire to stop it.
Could it be something in the wire harness causing this?
Thanks

A fuse IS A WIRE MADE TO BLOW/BURN if overloaded so that's where the problem is! The spades just don't connect IDK why but putting wire in there may have harmed receiving part more so a real fuse (proper rating) doesn't connect.
Just don't ever jump fused things newer the more risk meaning not from the 1950s or something. Way old trick was to let the spot blow so you could find it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't good then and isn't now.

That needs checking with a test light down where fuse goes, lights one side and would show ground if you reversed polarity when A/C requested. If you don't understand what I just said show a shop or tech the fuse that doesn't work but not the wire trick just that now that you did say it worked that way would also light a test light not the A/C if done/tested properly. That's all just don't blow a vehicle up over this stuff,

Thank you.
Will try to find a shop I can trust to look at ac/ fuse situation. The neighborhood ac guy just died a few months ago. So we all have to find someone else.
He was a cool old man that knew his stuff.
Thanks again.

Look at the socket the dang fuse goes inside. Think - if WIRE makes the connection and a fuse does NOT that socket isn't pinching fuse well enough. Takes special tools to fix one of those a high bet is loused up somehow or way. Why? Because the fuse is there to make it do the same unless OVERLOADED for any reason after it would burn out if you've seen them.

Rare side but some new fuses are not good if you use same one or ones from same batch? It's fine if you don't have or want to own basic DVPM with just ohms see if it passes thru a fuse's prongs at 100% plain continuity.

Web is failing me where I am folks home or IDK it's this crap going on so losing you if you wish to try you could check. The fix just point out what you found and where see from a tech what the best fix would be.
If whole fuse center is exposed CERTAIN vehicles dammit just place them where harm can get at them unseen so fix that - now may not be so easy if more involved this just the first?? Tom
