AC slow to start Sign In

Hello, I drive a 2015 VW Passat, and the AC often takes about 15 minutes to start blowing cold air. It blows air right away, but is only the outside temperature at first. Once it comes on, it works perfectly and stays that way. Additionally, as long as I start the car again within 10 hours or so, it works fine. So I can go to work and, as long as I ran the AC in the morning, it’s still working when I turn the car back on. But overnight, it stops working.

Has anyone had this issue before?

You won't find the answer to that online. The car has to be troubleshooted while the problem is present to determine what is failing to cause the problem. This car uses a regulator valve inside the compressor to control the compressor instead of an electric clutch like older cars. You have no way of knowing if the valve is engaged without gauges hooked up to the car and then it is a complicated electrical circuit to troubleshoot if there is a problem.

You are going to need a highly trained professional with a lot of AC experience to look at it.

Dkahn: If this during extreme heat it could be some what normal.
Just was where I am, ground HOT with full sunlight, parked could bake a cake in them - no joke. It takes time to overcome that with surface temps (asphalt common here) I measured at 147F is tough to cool compressed refrigerant thru the grille.

Take some real temp measurements if you can just in case when you get it checked it doesn't do it and all checks out. If this is brand new under the same conditions it should repeat the problem you may have to leave the car 10 hours and still working is a long time note what time of day it worked.
Just trying to save you a wasted check if EXTREMES - if not disregard this,

Tom

Pressures would be welcome to know what your problem is. Looks like a defective refrigerant control valve or a loose connection. It's in the back of the compressor, two wires.
