Hi everyone, So my 2014 ford fusion 2.5 suddenly stopped blowing cold air the other day. I took it in to a mechanic and they told my the expansion valve has failed. I bought a new one and put it in myself. I then put a vacumn to the system for an hour and then proceeded to re-charge with the refrigerant. The system took in about 3 ounces and then the compressor clutch engaged and it suddenly stopped taking refrigerant. I tried multiple different cans and gauges but cannot get it to take in anymore refrigerant. Both the low and high pressure readings are at 150 psi which I know is way too high for the low side. Could the compressor clutch be engaging but the internal components not be working properly to allow refrigerant to circulate throughout the system? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm afraid it sounds like your mechanic has no idea what he was doing. Expansions valve don't just suddenly fail. If you are sure your clutch is engaged and the valves are both closed on the gauges, then you have a bad compressor but i would find a real AC tech to look at it before throwing any money at it. I really hope you didn't have the high side valve open when trying to charge it because that is a good way for the can to blow up in your hand. One of whatever you have is reading a credible "static" pressure just says with 3oz is enough to show pressure is almost exactly 112F under the hood! Yes you know the temp if you know the pressure. The assorted "death kits" are sometimes just pure refrigerant some with sealers and junk never touch those. The locking gas as hose ends and new cans if using those too are a royal pest. Right now your compressor isn't engaged - can't be if you are sure about 3oz only would shut down if you've been at it a while with system on. I think your troubles are all with cheap hose end connectors and the kit gauges may be right is a crap shoot. If you really think this was the only problem I suggest just asking what a place would charge you to redo another vacuum and charge to exact weight. If it doesn't work then the first diagnosis was wrong! It's not easy there's so many variables it's just not very DIYable even knowing a lot about it.
