2004 GMC Sierra AC goes out on drivers side Sign In

Seem to have a couple problems only on drivers side as I’m driving. Dash Lights will go out and AC will blow hot as I’m driving. Any info would help. Thanks in advance.

You would bring a tough one - see what we can do. I take it dash lights AND this goes warm are at the same time? Is this intermittent or predicable with lights on for such that dash lights work?
If so there must be a shared ground (IMO) that serves both an actuator for A/C and lights to just that part of dash.
I think I'd look for a bared ground wire, up over driver's feet and also under hood make sure they are all intact. They are all over the place for good reason.
You can add (double alligator clip wire) ground from a known ground (door striker for example) and raw dash metal see if that snaps it out of that for info.
Body, frame, engine, trans and even some ground exhaust make sure they are there and working or funky things like that happen,

That’s the thing, it just happens randomly. Not predictable. Sometimes when the dash lights are going on and off the AC will still work and vise versa. I’ve taken it in to a couple places and they couldn’t figure it out. Sometimes nothing will happen and then the next day completely different.

That's the difficult part of being a mechanic. You can't really fix what isn't broken and if the problem isn't present at the time, then it isn't broken at the time. It's nearly impossible to track down the problem until you can duplicate the problem.

"Intermittent" for whacko things (trucks more or less?) check the dang grounds. They are hidden but all over already said. It's fine to add one or more knowing you are only going from what is known good ground (engine block the first stop for battery) from it to frame then more to body.

Once inside items isolated (some dash parts and features) need another designed in when new.

They can bust if exposed or just lose it and look fine when you do see them.

This is a mechanic's horror if intermittent and it all works when checked out. That's why I suggested ADD ground if you catch it all the better or leave it and if it never happens for a long while that's the item.

No fun fixing what doesn't make itself clear where the issue is IDK was anything recent done that might have disturbed it? That's a clue if so,

Nope nothing new has been done. I’m out of town at the moment, but will take your advice and check it out when I get back. I appreciate all the information.

Open the hood you should see at least two quickly. I'm guess based on two things happen at the same time it's a ground issue rather than power? Check anything common to both,

Nothing new done. This has been a problem for a couple years now. My truck was broken into 2 years ago and they ripped my stereo out of my dash. Cant remember if this was a problem before that or not(I think it was a problem before). Not sure if that would affect anything. But I’ll take a look at your advice and report back. Appreciate all the help.

You aren't sure on a theft of stereo but that would be the area to look IMO the thief no doubt wasn't worrying about the rest of the truck just wanted that unit. How it was fixed is NOW a strong chance wasn't OE or as careful if it worked out the door it went now acting up - strong guess now,

2003-06 GMT800 trucks like yours do have a problem with that. The quickest and easy way to fix it is by disconnectong both battery terminals, cleaning them and the battery and reconnect. There is also a fuse, HVAC ECAS that can be removed for nine seconds and re-installed. Turn the ignition on (no the engine) and let the actuarors self-calibrate for a minute. You may hear noises from under the dashboard.
