Volvo ignition is stuck

I have a 2005 volvo v50 T5 and I cleaned the fuse box ( the passenger side) with electrical cleaner and forgot to plug back in some wires to the fuse box, there was a loud clicking coming from the fuse box and the car would not shut off so I disconnected the battery to shut it off (the battery was nearly dead as well). I recharged the battery fully and hooked it up, made sure all the fuse box connections were plugged in. Now my key will not go all the way into the ignition and it stops right before the off position. The steering wheel is also locked. I tried disconnecting the battery and let the electronics discharge what ever voltage remained but that didnt do anything. Any ideas on what the problem is?

You probably burned out one of the modules but test all the fuses with a test light first. You will need a professional level scan tool that can access all the modules to look for issues. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

This issue happened before when my battery died while the key was in the ignition and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes fixed it, but this time it isn't working. there used to be a clicking noise coming from inside the ignition when ever I put the key in, like if I were to turn the key off to fast the key would stop turning right before the off position, but only for a brief second and then I would hear a click and the key would turn fully off after the click.

should I switch the relay with a different one? Maybe switch it out with the engine start relay?

It sounds like there is a problem with the shift interlock system. The key shouldn't come out until the cylinder is turned all the way off, but it happens, keys and cyls get worn out and keys will come out in the on position BUT in that case, they will usually go all the way back in. I believe the brk system is tied into this interlock, so I would check and make sure your brk lights are working. Swapping relays that are the same can help, just be sure you put them back in the same spot you got them from. google "2005 volvo v50 T5 shifter interlock" and see if there are any videos posts about this.

Thanks for the advise! imma look into the shifter lock, also gonna investigate how the steering lock effects the ignition, if all fails, couldn't I just remove the ignition switch and then manually set it in its off position?

The interlock he is talking about is a solenoid that prevents the ignition from locking the steering wheel if the car is not in park so it can't lock going down the road. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

oh I see. I guess a can of gasoline and a match would solve all my problems lol. I'm starting to hate this car.
