Oil Change frequency? Sign In

I have a 2014 Toyota Tacoma V6 with 63000 miles. I live about 3 miles from work. I am concerned that the engine does not get hot enough /long enough to dissipate the condensation and that i might think about more frequent oil changes....Looking for a mileage or time frame oil change frequency recommendation. I usually use Mobil 1 but if frequency is gonna increase im gonna go cheaper synthetic. TIA

That's a hot button discussion. If you ask 5 different mechanics you will probably get 5 different opinions.

Manufacturers keep extending the intervals mainly because the quality of the oils is improving and the bigger reason is they want to reduce maintenance costs.

Some manufacturers are recommending 10K or even more but I will never agree with that.

I personally use a quality synthetic and change it about every 6-7K. You are right about those short trips and the condensation requiring more frequent changes.

I'd say probably the most important factor is how long to you plan on keeping the car. If you are going to drive it until it won't drive anymore, then change it more frequently. If you're going to get rid of it in a few years, your money is just helping the next owner.
