Need help on alternator batter issue. Sign In

I have a 2004 Mazda 3 Hatchback.
I just replaced my alternator with a brand new one from NAPA.
I also replaced the battery with a Die Hard Silver.
They were both shot.
Now it's all new.
I had to cut off the female connector plug to take it actually remove it because it was stuck on pretty good.
I did solder the wires back on and everything seemed to fit perfectly back into place.
However, now my car almost hesitates and seems as though it wants to stall when I come to a stop or put it in reverse.
I found something on line where it could be a low voltage problem.
Could this connector be bad?
Could the wires be damaged some how and not be able to run enough current?
Could there be another problem?
Should I get a new connector?
Nothings come up on my obd2 scanner.

You aren't going to get codes right now.
You've reset EVERYTHING including idle adjustment you can't do and season's changing all at once.
Question is did you solve the charging system issues? They can do that and pig-tails can be found to fix those welded on plugs when hell broke lose hope that you got it right, probably did.

It's learning again. I don't have a trick but to drive it! Tricks via some fake reset unlikely to work, it's too old now. If you just take a drive (long one with many stops, start and allow cool downs too) it will re-learn how to hold an idle and what was being covered up within limits of controls. Until it's set again it will stall. Drive where that doesn't screw you up it can be done in a couple hours on most anything or a problem still lurks?

If it doesn't relearn the idle properly within a couple miles, then disconnect the battery again and let it start over.

Good idea! I usually get them to something acceptable in a few miles with lots of stops and starts BEFORE giving a car back to customer.

If still not right tell them if it doesn't behave in day let me know but all have so wouldn't do it again and haven't had to,

It seems to be running a lot better now. Thanks! You guys are the best. The check engine light did go on and it looks like one of my o2 sensors is shot so I'm going to get that sucker swapped out and do another rest and see if it runs even better after that.

?How long has the CEL been on? Codes were cleared from the battery/alternator issue and relearn seems to have worked out OK?
The code may be misleading you to change a part could be just that it wasn't running properly for a while not bad - just needs a good hard highway run let it burn out some junk.

AYOR but I'd reset the codes again and put up with same bull just do it faster this time a strong maybe that O2 code would go away.

Know that your code reader isn't telling you to replace a part rather anything wrong with that circuit will set the code. Wire to it, even just not running well assorted reasons.

How long have you gone without plain oil and air filter checks and changes? Do those, air filter if needed oil can play a part it's a 2004 do it more often than it may suggest or read fine print that you fit into "severe" use (sounds ominous) if short trips, dusty, hot, cold, humid, dry, short trips, long idle time some of them.

Ahhh - that's most of the way cars are used and get exposed to not really the rule or "normal" use, misleading that you can go much longer time counts as well as miles! Remember that.

Tough year on tons of vehicles, many of them new and unsold sat around too long - consequences for that is troubles out of the gate NEW and things to do! I'd be ticked - truth is they don't get run now and then new either!

Not necessarily. Just because a code mentions an 0/2 sensor doesn't mean the sensor is the problem. It may be just reporting a condition it is seeing.

What was the exact code number?
