Hood Latch very hard to pull open. Sign In

Does anyone have a magic trick to fixing a hood latch that doesn't seem to open the hood of a car? Yesterday it was very hard to open the latch, had to lift it way up. Today, same thing except the hood didn't open.

Is there somewhere i could tighten up the cable that releases the hood, or anything to that affect?

These can be nasty. It may take a buddy but push up and down on the hood and get it open again while fully pulled for"open". Take a hard look at the cable how it attaches. It may just need a new cable or maybe you can bend the lever or add on of the fishing line split weights. You know those split round lead balls. If you can add a trip line to the lever to it until you are convinced you are all set. They are tricky to open if the cable breaks and if it was mine I be in a hurry to get a new one. CHECK YOUR OIL AND FLUIDS next time it's open!

I've seen some that do adjust but think most don't. I wouldn't wait too long to fix this no matter what it takes,

Hose the livin' daylights outta the latch and the cable with Break Free. Sometimes adjusting the bump stops up a tad will put some reverse pressure on the hood and pop that puppy up when you yank on the cable lever. Sometimes you just gotta think, "Monster Garage, Monster Garage". Wink
