Engine malfunction message on dash but no engine light Sign In

2008 1.8 litre ford focus. Engine malfunction message on dashboard. However the engine light doesn't come on. Ordered a code reader but worried it might not work of engine light ain't on? Advice

Obviously, you need to attempt to read the codes. I expect they will be there and able to read assuming you have a good code reader. Remember, these DIY code readers are not even close to the abilities from a professional scan tool.

While waiting for this reader at least check the things you can. Engine oil, coolant level, brake fluid, clutch as well if hydraulic or auto check if it has a dipstick.
Read owner/operators manual for items due by miles and time and that they are in fact done.


This version isn't sold to the US the basics are still there. If found out of range you should then want to know why,

The car is sold here but only with the 2.0 engine. Are you sure you got the engine size right?
