Broken key in ignition

Can someone help me, my husband who has the beginnings of Dementia, put the wrong key in car ignition, and it broke off, I can get my fingers on it, but no luck getting it out. I was afraid I was going to do more damage. Any ideas what to do?? (he is not even supposed to be driving, he did this on his own) in case anyone was wondering. I would be greatful for any help.

Find a locksmith that will come to the car. If it wrecked the tumblers they too should be able to duplicate it if anyone?
