Apologise if in wrong tread Car:Vauxhall Astra 2010 (diesel) Ive just bought the car and noticed when i put it into 5th and let the speed decline on its own or if i brake and end up at 30mph the car will try and speed its self back up to 40 without me touching the pedals. Is this normal? Every other gear seems to work fine, cruise controll is off 100% the car just trys to speed its self up. Only seems to speed up to 40mph. Thanks

This car isn't sold to the US where this site is based so very limited info or ideas. To me that's not normal nor would be using 5th of 5 gears as low as 30 MPH. In that it somehow can gain speed from that it might be some fail-safe to NOT I call "lug" the engine. I'm not aware of such a thing but something like that might exist? Do you have owner's - operator's manual for this car? It might say it can and will do that but doubt it. Best I can do, T

Fifth gear at 30 MPH, it was probably just trying to stabilize the idle speed. That's way too high a gear to be in at that speed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
