This doesn't happen during my usual 15-20 minute trips to town at 60mph, but seems to always happen when I've had to drive 45-60 minutes at 70mph. When exiting the highway or otherwise quickly slowing from freeway speeds, my braking seems to pulse below 40mph or so. The brake pedal is not pulsing, only the actual braking/slowing of the car, maybe 1-2 pulses per second. I've been thinking it was a warped rotor until a week ago when I noticed the same pulsing while creeping in dense traffic with no pressure on the brake pedal at all. Could a dragging caliper/brake pad be overheating and warping a rotor to the point where the rotor and dragging brake pad were creating the pulsing effect even when not braking? And would the rotor be returning to its original shape after it cools, because there's no sign of the behavior the next day while running short errands. - 2011 Dodge Nitro SXT SUV 4D (3.7L V6 SMPI) Odometer: 102,000 miles

There's a pretty simple solution to finding this problem. Simply take it to a shop so they can measure the runout of the brake rotor. No, the rotor won't warp and then go back to normal but you can have hot spots in the rotor that will act differently. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You should be good now. Just don't overheat the brakes. It was probably the sticking caliper that caused the overheat this time.
