These were winter tires that were left on the rear of the car . A hum/vibration occurred and the rear tires had cups and high& low tread areas . These were artic paw with a cross hatch pattern . 2 people got on the back end and worked it up and down and the shocks seemed stiff enough . Tire pressure was kept at about 35 psi . Any idea why these tires went bad with good tread left on them ?

That is a normal wear pattern when tires are left on the rear of a FWD car for too long. Very common. You can move them to the front and they will start to even out but they will be twice as loud in the meantime. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Ok Thanks , We'll stay away from directional rotation tires so that rotating them on the car can be more diverse (?) I just don't like that cross hatch pattern for some reason , they seem appropriate on the rear but not for what a front tire has to do IMO

Yes, the tires have to be rotated, at least front to rear on FWD cars.
