2001 Silverado crank no start (CPS) Sign In

I have a 2001 Silverado with 5.3v8; it was intermittently dying or just not starting. I changed plugs and wires (needed it anyway), then checked codes, and it said a crankshaft position sensor. I changed the crankshaft position starter, and it still won’t start.

Re: 2001 Silverado crank no start (CPS) Sign In

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

That doesn’t help with this, I’ve checked everything I can, and am wondering if there’s sometning I could’ve missed with swapping this

We don't guess at things or simply throw parts at something without testing.

I gave you the standard troubleshooting procedure for a crank, no start.

If you're looking for the crystal ball method, we don't do that'

That’s not what I’m looking for, I’m saying that the codes say it’s the crankshaft position sensor, and I swapped it, I more mean to look for if there’s sometning I missed with the crankshaft position sensor, maybe a common issue to do witn that, I know what the crank no start problem is coming from.

Well, do you still get the crank sensor code coming back after clearing it? A code for the sensor doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is bad. It can be anything in the circuit such as wiring, the computer itself of something mechanical effecting the reading of the crank sensor.

Yes, I have cleared it and rescanned, still shows that.

Why not start with posting the Code(s) it's setting.....

Sure about that?

Re: 2001 Silverado crank no start (CPS) Sign In

It's obviously not the crankshaft position sensor itself causing the issue because you replaced it. Not saying it couldn't be bad out of the box or,, a short in the wiring, but you're getting advice from mechanics who have been in the trade for decades. Listen to them and they'll help you get it figured out. Could be some other no start issue causing it to throw that code. The tests HT told you to follow are easy to perform. Just post the results and they'll tell you what to do next.
