1996 Ford Escort Fuel Tank Question Sign In

Good morning,

We have a 1996 Ford Escort.

The car only has 80,000 miles on it.

Lately when pumping fuel gas will sometimes come out aware the nozzle comes in and to the side of it and there appears to be some rest around where the nozzle was to the side.

Is this something that is a major fix? If there is rust in that area could there be Ress further down the gas tank which could be a major repair?

Has anybody ever experienced this?

Thank you so much for your help and have a blessed day.

Maybe you want to take another stab at asking that question. This time maybe something that makes some sense.

Re: 1996 Ford Escort Fuel Tank Question Sign In

I will make an attempt at some advice here: If you are stating that fuel is leaking from under the car below the area where you fill it with fuel, and not from the opening where the gas cap goes, then you could have a fuel filler neck with holes rusted through or a leaking rubber fuel filler hose between the fuel filler neck and the fuel tank. Either way, you should have a "check engine" light on and a fault code for an emissions leak. There are 2 ways to find the leak if it is the neck or hose. One would be to visually confirm the cause of the leak while it is dripping. The other would be to smoke test the emissions system, which includes the tank and filler neck assembly. The filler neck and filler hose are both available in the aftermarket if that is where the leak is found.
