Is the price right for Mazda repair? Sign In

Hello, I recently bought a used 1997 Mazda Protege and it seems to be in need of repair after repair. I'm at the point where I want to sell it and try to find something else. I just took it to a shop because it was making a loud fan-like noise when I accellerated and had a check engine light, and they told me that there were 3 exhaust pipes in the back that needed to be replaced. The cost estimate they gave me was over $1,000. My question is are they trying to empty my pockets or is this a legit amount of money to spend on something like this? Hope this question is appropriate here... Thank you!

It may be legit for a general repair shop but if you take it to an exhaust specialty shop, they will likely do it for a lot less money and do a better job.
