Valves, adjusting and everything else Sign In

Okay, this is gonna be a general q and a regarding valves, adjustment, and everything else.
The car I'm working with is a 91 Acura Integra with a B13B engine. But the questions are going to be pretty general.
1. After adjusting, does the vehicles performance indicate what adjustments might be required.
Ie. Low torque, open exhaust or intake.?
2. Can the spark plugs indicate what adjustments may need to be made?
3. Are there times when the listed settings are incorrect? If so, how does one experiment with different clearances to achieve the proper lash settings?
In this case, the listing calls for my intake to be .017 intake and .019 for my exhaust.
However, this results in a loss of torque, slight hesitation, reduced overall speed and occasional small backfiring. Adjusting to .016 intake and .018 exhaust seems to make the engine run a little better but there's still a loss of power overall.

There is no way in hell that .001 in valve lash will change anything in the way the car runs.

You are either adjusting them improperly or the changes are in your imagination.

Re: Valves, adjusting and everything else Sign In

I would have easily thought the same thing but there's no denying the changes. Perhaps I'm simply getting more consistent with my adjustments.
Either way, what I've described is what's been happening.
I've been getting changes in the way the motor runs even when keeping the guages the same.
When dealing with tolerances so miniscule, it would be easy to figure that consistency is going to Plat a major role.
However, the questions remain.
Are there ways to tell how the next adjustments need to be made?

If there are adjustments it says so in owner's manual a schedule.

Just changing oil there wouldn't be much change,

Cold lately do check ALL tires include spare temps lower pressure or raise it when hot plus they leak some over time so periodic,

Again, there is no way that change effected anything.

Valve adjustment in general can't cause more than some noise or some valve damage, depending on which direction they are off, in even extreme incorrect adjustment situations.

You are either messing up the adjustment real bad or barking up the wrong tree.
