Heater core hose

Heater core hose Sign In

09 town and country 225,000 miles 3.8 engine
Blew my upper heater core hose assembly, plastic crisp broke
Changed it out, but now my van is running hot
Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like you didn't bleed all the air out of the system.

The easiest way is what we do and use a vacuum fill tool. If you don't have access to one it can be more difficult.

You need to fill it and run it until it reaches full temp. Shut it off and let it cool for hours until everything is fully cooled. Top it off and repeat the process again as many times as it takes to get all the air out. If it's not pulling the coolant back into the system as it cools, then it may still have a leak causing it to suck air.

If you already severely overheated it, then it may be too late already and could have a blown head gasket now.

Sry hammer let me explain it better, temp gage measures like a gAs gauge
Normal temp is a 1/4 tank
When I changed hose needle went up to about half way between 1/4 tank and 1/2 tank
Whe I drive it goes to just about 1/4 tank the when I’m stopping or ideling it goes up to 2/2 tanthete are no leaks

That sounds normal. Without the AC on the radiator fan will not kick on until approx 225 degrees which will seem hot but it's not. You may have been using AC before which will keep the fan running all the time.

When the vehicle is moving the passing air acts like a fan.

A c doesn’t work, the gauge was working correctly before the hose blew , it took my a bit before I noticed the van overheating, my wife noticed it smoking before I pulled over, just 3 clamps on hose, no problems at all, refilled with antifreeze and water, the it runs hotter then normal, that was the intake side I didn’t change outlet side I don’t want to wreak my van from it overheating

If it was smoking before you pulled over it is likely too late for that engine.

3.8 engines are very susceptible to heat.

It will take a lot of testing to confirm that but the chances are very high it has head gasket and likely head damage.

It probably has not destroyed the lower end but the labor and parts to repair a head gasket and damaged head would probably make it not feasible to repair it.

Hoping for the best Dennis. If you can pressure test it at least see if it holds now? If pressure cap is on recovery tank (lousy idea IMO) it would still hold or not.

Filling many is a pest if just routine coolant changes you get the prescribed additives that wear out it's keeps freeze protection indefinitely.

Now if this hose just blew out all at once, coolant boiled instantly the vapor left isn't cooling anything for the engine right away.

Knowing it's full isn't so easy but if heater works a good chance getting close or there?

Temp gauge not the same IDK the sensor got hot too if that hot to change it OMG it was way too hot IMO.

As Hammer said engines now made to run over boiling point due to having pressure many Mopars run 16lb pressure you get 3F more for ea. lb it holds coolant stays a liquid.

You didn't mention a new thermostat it too might not have liked the heat?

Anyway do all your diagnosing while it's intact "The Zone" and other parts places rent lots for free for full deposit for safe return.

Other handy things are touchless infrared temperature measuring things small like a key fob and ones with laser pointer.

IDK, my thinking is know it's blown gaskets not guessing as best you can.

Going to change the thermostat if that don’t help I have a appointment next Monday at the shop
