98 chevy tahoe, crankshaft position sensor, no start

My 98 Chevy Tahoe has been running really rough, RPM fluctuates/ flutters +\- 200 while driving and in park. Codes are random misfire and crankshaft pos sensor intermittent. I've changed cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I'm in the process of changing out the crank sensor and after I removed it, it has some scratches to the face of the sensor that are questionable. I don't want to just replace with new if this problem will occur on new sensor. Can someone please explain why this would happen??

Pretty hard to tell you anything without even knowing what engine it has and 2WD or 4WD. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
