07 Saturn Vue - Boggs Down until warmed up

I have an 07 Saturn Vue with a 4 cylinder engine. The engine bogs down and shuts off when I put it into reverse or even depress the brakes in park or neutral until warm. Once the engine warms up the problem goes away and everything works fine. There are no engine codes. Placing the car into drive before the engine warms does not cause the problem. It seems the car's RPM goes below what it should. Any suggestions?

? Seems we're starting over with this since November? Anyway, same ideas. Vacuum leaks that might tighten up? I or HT probably already said do codes and check physically for temp sensors the thing may not know it's cold if so wouldn't adjust for being cold and do that. IDK just another question > When you start up cold does it start right away and have a short term raised idle? If not same as before - this doesn't know it's cold most likely and should, T

I have been to several mechanics with no resolution. They have suggested everything from replacing the engine, a new ECM, and replacing the transmission. The local Chevy dealer even ran a diagnostic and determined the problem could not be determined by the scan and wanted more money than the car was worth for a more involved diagnosis. To answer your question, the idle does not increase when placed in reverse. It decreases to around 800 RPM and subsequently shuts off. Thanks for your help

a1handy2 : What can you do alone or to find more confident + competent help for this? At least nice to know what or why if you are going to bail out of this car. Totally understood (wild area by area lockdown problems where I am) is messing every last thing up! Clean that IAC or all parts for intake yourself! It can't cover loads or doesn't know RPM 800 BTW is enough not to stall or normal to high normal for almost anything so it's not firing properly. If no help from codes reading (is a direction not saying what's wrong) it could be the problem?? Should get a "not ready" or can't communicate IDK can be your plug in or theirs?? What a mess up to a whole engine bet you'd still have the problems or worse MORE problems? Cold? FYI, an engine is cold below 160F itself or more so whatever cold is where you are or car is parked part of it. Say so could help me or techs with the thing in front of them always an advantage (I hope) over the web. Back to air intake items. That's key to zillions of things this no exception. All parts intact and cleaned if need be. Look for what gets a wire to it if it's snug and no flaws. Temp sensors are or can be all over. One or more on radiator and that air intake plus on the engine usually on or near thermostat. There's also a few things this Covid pandemic has caused depends on right where you are: Low use vehicles are lower use now for most. Winter came, fuel changes to a more volatile formula may or may not make your car happy? Old gas, yours or where you get it. OMG, can't win. If you are up to it I'll give this a wild try, with YOU if you have some items and the parts or some testing equipment available to you ALSO means a place to do it. Just for now if this runs smoothly when warm I'll suggest if this has poked around locally for months to give it a good run at highway speeds, use up some fuel but don't let it go below about 1/4 tank or carry some if need be. Amazing what just doing that can do to help a vehicle if just poking around too much for too long, late oil changes (real late) both time and miles matter temp swings wreck oils especially if outdoor parked moisture alone causes problems all over metal things you see it they are damp late mornings from being out all night if cold where you are inside and outside a vehicle it raises all hell - really does! a1handy2 AGAIN: Double J kicked in explained better than I did the air ducts for INCOMING air. Yes - just messing with it for an air filter now old for plastic crap they crack or split unseen = car runs like crap or erratic. He also said/noticed it stumbles in reverse not forward? Did you mean that? It matters because engine tilts a bit in one and the other way in the other. Look at it with hood open you'll see it do that. Hmmmm? If a split in that air intake will fool many IMO seems the case. It splits in one direction not open in the other? Eventually air under a hood is warm it's supposed to draw in OUTSIDE air, know the temps of that plus engine temp. Another test you can do a helper would be great. Don't trust parking brakes use blocks or things that can't fail if you try this. Feel the tail-pipe or use paper on it to watch it putt uniformly. Put in forward (brakes needed) but not to go back to reverse. If brake use alone matters we are on to something else! You can see or feel a skip or one that goes away plus odor that never really belongs. AYOR sport smelling exhaust yourself vs machine it's poisonous hence AYOR. Know what carbon monoxide is = no odor most of the time is from imperfect burning of a fuel - about any. If you do smell something it's the fuel not monoxide that got thru. Last thing is to be harmed or hurt DIYing most of us already did that and got the T-shirt but didn't kill us! Mentioned testing fuel? Best if you get a sample put it in a glass jar to see it. Let it settle down see what it looks like. Report that, Tom

Call it solved. Once had a run on those also came with pigtail to use was more of the problem now lots older GMs could "Ohm" those right out of a freezer and again when warmer there's a chart for it in this site somewhere I put there for the things. Good luck it should have shown up as a code error? T
