fault codes Sign In

We recently bought a 2001 Dodge van and the fault code (601) says "internal control module memory check sum error" What does this mean and how much money are we talking? Is this serious? You can't tell anything is wrong while driving it. Also the other code (455) "evaporative emission control system leak detected" Same question What is it and how much? Thanks so muchWink

Re: fault codes Sign In

According to the code description for 601 it’s an internal fault in the control module (computer). The only repair is to replace the computer. It may never give you any trouble or the van just may quite one day.
The P0455 is just like it says there is some form of leak in the EVAP system. The EVAP system is designed to contain the raw gas fumes from the fuel tank and lines, until the computer decides to allow the engine to burn the fumes.
Trying to find the leak can be very difficult at times, because we’re not talking about a gapping hole in the system but more like a pinhole. The leak may also be in one of the solenoids or it could be something as simple as the gas cap not holding pressure.
As for the costs that are involved, it depends on what route you take to have it repaired. New computer used computer, how long it takes to find the EVAP leaks will all add into the price.
