2002 civic monitors Sign In

Having trouble with these monitors , I had a code p1457 " no dtc definition found , pending " and 4 monitors , catalyst , evap. system , oxygen sensor and oxygen heater , they come and go but I need to get the sticker this month . I find it strange that when I read the codes the p1457 came up but didn't light the cel , and when I read that code I checked the monitors and there was only the evap , then I started the car , shut it off and cleared the one code , then checked the monitors and the other three came up . If I can get advice on where to start that would be great , thanks .

That's because clearing codes resets monitors and they all have to start over so you have to fix issues first.

That code is for a leak in the EVAP system so you need to smoke test it to find the leak.

and of course the code would result in failed test even though the cel didn't light up , ok thanks

I think it would put the light on eventually. It may be a 2 trip code and you are only seeing a pending code.

Setting a monitor means that the car has been driven through all the test situations that would trigger a code and none have triggered. Each monitor has different drive cycles that the car has to go through to reset that particular monitor.

When you clear a code or disconnect a battery you make all of them start over and they will have to complete a drive cycle before being set again..

took the honda for a ride and the monitors cleared except for one , you're allowed one , no codes came up so I got to the garage asap , we're all legal now , evap codes come up once in a while on the other cars too , you'd think if it was a real problem they would come up periodically but they don't , the guy at work got his inspection with busted windshield , cel on and cracked lens good for him eh. ?

Contrary to popular belief, EVAP codes can be permanently fixed. You just have to smoke test the system t find the leak. The most common sources of leaks are the gas cap or the vent valve but any of the rubber hoses can leak also.
