1990 pontiac bonneville 3.8 v-6. I have a check engine light on with a code 16 high system voltage. It is intermittent. Along with code engine idles high in park in neutral around 1,800-2,400 rpm. Any ideas where I can start?

You'll need to monitor the battery voltage to determine if it really is going to high. You may have a bad alternator. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

maybe check the voltage at the back of alternator and battery- could be the system is not seeing correct battery voltage and commanding a high alt output.
