What battery for 2012 Accord? Sign In

Hi all

What battery should I get for a 2012 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder? I’m in Maryland and drive mainly highway. Car is all stock. no lights or electronics added.

NAPA and other vendors list batteries from $120 to $280. I don’t mind spending more but not if it’s for extra performance that I’ll never use.

Thank you

Charlie

Every car has a minimum CCA (Cold Cranking Amps)spec for batteries. The specific fitment is determine by the Group classification of the battery which determines the dimensions of the battery and the location of the posts. The group classification for your car is 51R or optional 35

When you buy a battery with more capacity that minimum, you are not wasting money. You are increasing cold weather capacity, getting a longer warranty and generally improving electrical reserve capacity to operate everything electrical in the car to include faster cranking on cold mornings or long storage.

Very helpful. Many thanks. Since my now 14 year old will get the car in 2 years, I thought I'd play it safe with either an Optima red top 720 CCA with 90 mins reserve or Odyssey Performance 725 CCA with 155 reserve. Is there another I should consider?

Charlie,
Try your best for quality of the battery. It's hard to know now more than ever as it's a hazmat thing yet a must for your car to start and work as intended for ages now rules the thing.

Price/cost may not reflect quality of it! Best is if you can find or DIY a pre-charged up one do it yourself BEFORE you install it as it isn't fully charged new. Sounds screwed up and is.

Grease the heck out of all hardware in and around it because it's a corrosion maker if this the first one on a 2012 anything it's way past needing a 3rd IMO.
BTW, batteries are marked with month and year made know what you have and what you are buying new it may not be what you think. They age about as well as lettuce and perish just about like that no matter what you do,

Excellent choices. Either one of those are more than enough for that Honda.

! So far so good with 2 (my own stuff) Optima Red top. Love dual posts either could be for a road call. Making the type I have like a 6 pack look was a trick to make hardware (OE) hold it snug on one of them was all.
$$ up front so far worth it IMO time will prove it. BTW I do like NAPA if only for professional parts folks know handling of parts for the ones that matter - this does. No bashing anyone but they don't sell groceries also :-)
