Infinity qx4 not charging

9/2001 Infinity qx4 3.5l alternator not charging. Good battery, I do have battery voltage at the alternator. Alternator fuse Is good. What I dont have is charging voltage nor do I have a system fault indicator on the instrument cluster. Alternator was replaced March of 2001. It was 100% faulty but the battery light was working then but not now. I once owned a BMW who's alt light worked intermittently. If it illuminated during bulb check the alt would charge, if the light did not come on during bulb check alt would not charge. Is this infinity the same type system? It's a 3hour job to R&R the alt to have it tested so I'm hoping it's just a bulb issue. Please advise. Thanks

I don't think that bulb check has anything to do with whether the alternator is going to charge or not. Does the light come on for bulb check? How do you know it's not charging? How and where are you testing it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

OK, so you $1400 tester isn't going to tell you if the fusible link is blown between the alternator and the battery. Fuse A 120A edit: I see you tested at the alternator so that should cover that. Also check fuse #8 10A in the dash box and fuse #65 7.5A in the engine compartment ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

7.5 amp fuse Is good. I was unaware of fuse #10 amp fuse Thank you. Ok, 120 amp, 10 amp and 7.5 amp fuse all electrically and physically checked. All are good. Still no warning Indictator light.

FIXED. Turns out the bulb infact does play a very important role in controlling the alternator. I loosened the instrument cluster and as I was pulling it out I grabbed the bottom of it from the bottom side with the ign key on and watched the cluster. As I pulled the battery light illuminated. I immediately stopped, grabbed the system tester and did a complete starter/charging test and alternator is now producing 14.7 dc volts. I removed the bulb and no charging action happening. No I cannot 100% say it's the bulb or possibly a short in the printed circuit but if the bulb does not illuminate during bulb check it won't charge. New bulb and socket arrives in the morning and all is well. I did fully remove the cluster and inspected it finding all the screws that hold all the attached components on the rear were loose. I snugged everything up.I hope this helps someone. Thanks

There's almost no way to know but YES that bulb allows system to work. Sorry I can't say which models of cars but were many if bulb blew or wrong charging system went FUBAR. I don't' make the rules but at this for ages now heard it all, fixed what could and YES that bulb was part of it mostly Mopars? Tom
