How to replace a positive battery cable for a 1991 Plymouth Acclaim?

Hi, I put on a new Positive cable terminal, thinking this would solve my problem but it works great periodically When i go to the store and come out, the car won't start, I have to pound my fist on the positive terminal then it will start until the next time. sometimes it works 3 or 4 times without doing anything.
what could be wrong? the battery is like new and tested (1) which is as high as you can get for a used battery. The terminals are spotless.

What could be wrong? Any of the cables, fuse box connections, any related wiring in the car or the ignition switch.

Don't "pound" on a battery! If you DON'T have a good connection at both cable right there it's game over to worry about anything else.
ANY parts outlet, even Walmarts have everything you need to clean those up or replace u-bolt ends if needed.
Caution on them is universal. Acid or if white crunchy dust is present it needs cleaning first. Always remove negative cable first and put that one back on last when done so you don't short the thing out with tools on positive side!

This model car Its not as basic as you think, there is more than one wire for the positive and you just don't pull it out from the engine compartment without knowing what you are doing.

Really? Are you going to explain to me the difficulty of working on a 30 year old domestic car?
It's not rocket science. You follow the wire and disconnect it where it is attached. You route the new cable the same way the original was routed and you only use a dealer supplied, original part.

Can you just fix what is there?
This should be Pb (lead) with a "battery" bolt is unique may all be frozen up and the "lead" stretched from tightening too much and jump starts can be hard on plain lead.
There are shims you can shrink the size some or take bolt out and file there make it the right shape again or the "battery" brush may be enough?
It's from the vintage when batteries had caps you could and were supposed to look, check and add distilled water and keep whole things clean with baking soda and water works rinse carefully and battery grease don't let them corrode up.
If that chased down several wires there bloating up wire insulation it's going to be hard to duplicate and doubt available new. Used also doubt any better than yours??
Whole cables used to be the way no longer you splice in ends will not have the other wires you deal with those.
Lead is a dirty word now for solder so is the flux that makes it work best. If you want the rest on to starter motor you just buy a longer cable and the end type that fits understood extra wires.
Start looking if it's so far gone see if you find a place the makes that exact pig-tail end. It's up to you to learn to slice it nicely and if this car has more life don't let those corrode up again.
It's just not something people do anymore is routinely check this stuff it should last indefinitely unless physically harmed or corroded.
If it's giving you enough trouble or don't have basic tools to do this or the place find the shop that will this should be routine for a tech once DIY for many - mostly to not let it go bad in the first place,
