When I turn the ignition key on, sometimes the starter does not turn. I release the ignition key, then I turned it on again and then the starter turns and the engine starts normally.
The battery is new and the problem was occurring also with the old battery, when it was still checking good. The starter was replaced a couple of years ago by a Honda dealer with a refurbished unit.
I press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to make sure that the safety switch is not preventing the starter from being actuated.
The problem is intermittent and occurs usually at the first start of the day.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Glad you said it was a standard trans w starter cut out switch:
Test that WHEN it wont crank. It's tough being intermittent it would show good is inconclusive till it probes current isn't passing thru.

IDK, perhaps need to right up a test light or have a very patient helper to crank it while you watch trigger wire from under-hood?

That's most likely to me so far unless you hear a single click or if all lighting goes out or dims a lot (try starting with door open an idea) so lights are on inside?) or something.

Intermittents are a pest.

I'm ruling out connections as battery or starter for now they've both been worked on hope connections are good but never rule that out,

That doesn't mean much at this point. It could easily be the starter again.

Totally agree "refurbished" doesn't have a great history to me. Nor do some "cloned new" ones either. It works most of the time except first of the day is just a clue, perhaps heat matters? Intermittent - pull your hair out over stuff like that,
