Hello,
So I just purchased this vehicle and the seller disclosed that the front wipers were not working. He suggested that it may be the fuse or motor since the back ones work. Well I pulled the fuse to check if it was busted, but it looked fine, so I reinserted it. Turn the car on later and the wipers are working!!!…. But not stopping LOL. The fuse appeared to be correct, it matched the manual (tan, 5A), and I’m 99% sure it was not loose originally before removing it. Could the motor cause this? Or could it still be a fuse issue? Why would it not work then randomly “work” again? Thank you.

What you are describing is the wipers are not parking. That is done through a module attached to the motor. It may be serviced separately or you may have to buy the whole motor.

After looking at the wiring diagram I see there are 2 different systems. An early design and a late design and they operate completely differently. One uses the GEM module (Body Control) to operate everything and one uses a module built into the motor.
The way to tell is to count the number of wires that go into the motor.
The switches work totally different in the two versions also.

Sorry for the super late response.
So I had the wiper issue diagnosed and the mechanic said it looked to be the combination switch. The estimated price was $560 (I live in Northern Virginia). I called my mechanic in Maryland and he estimated about $360.
My Explorer was manufactured during the latter part of 2002. So I paid $2 to go to a junkyard and pulled a $20 combo switch out of an ‘05 Mercury Mountaineer. I have 0 experience with cars and it took me about an hour to fix. And now my wipers work properly.
