I have a 1990 Nissan 300zx im replacing the wiring for the detonation sensor due to old age and corrosion. When I try to strip the wire its different than ive seen before its got a inner wire which I recognize but around that and between the outer layer is a fine metal sheathing. Do I coonect the inner strand? What about this metal like sheathing do I connect that somehow? Also this wire im replacing goes from a 2 wire pigtail down to 1 wire where it connect to the harness. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Get that whole "pig-tail" I wouldn't splice into that one or try to fix it. Good luck on the hunt for it. Plug ends and wiring connectors are a nightmare to find or fix all depending what they are for, T

You are describing RF shielded wire that generally cannot be spliced. The outer shielding is actually a ground and the center wire is the signal wire so if you are going to replace this, you need the whole section back to where it grounds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
