Stereo Installation for Chevrolet Cavalier Sign In

I have a 2004 Cheverolet Cavalier LS Sport sedan that I need to replace the stereo in. It currently has the factory radio, with RDS, no OnStar. I have already purchased a replacement stereo, and I am currently debating the cost-effectiveness of installing it myself vs. having someone else install it. I already have the wire harness and installation kit. I want to make sure I have all the correct parts before I attempt it myself or to otherwise know what is really needed before someone tries to overcharge me for unnecessary add-ons.

Specifically, my question lies in the chime system. Everything I read online merely states 'some' cars require a separate interface to make sure all chimes and warning sounds still work. The interface is an expensive part, so I don't want to buy one if I don't have to. Is this necessary with my exact vehicle? I am not speaking in general terms; I want to know if this is needed for a 2004 Chevy Cavalier as outlined above.

Also, one website suggested buying a separate antenna adapter, which no one else recommended. Do I need one of these, too?

Re: Stereo Installation for Chevrolet Cavalier Sign In

First know this is NOT my specialty - never was. Car Audio isn't just pick what you wish anymore rather choose what can work properly with the particular vehicle - monster warning on that.
There should be a listed interface plug in adaptor with no wire cutting or splicing at all or you shouldn't want that radio.
Some adapters I have dealt with for antennas AYOR again.
I would sooner seek out a used one after finding out if it must be dealer acquainted to the vehicle first. I'm not sure option by option of each of same vehicles as this has become it's own specialty,

Re: Stereo Installation for Chevrolet Cavalier Sign In

you need a defibrillator you WANT to replace the audio system.
Not worth it, esp the DIYer idea. and the cost for profession install Oh vey.
You will need to do the math. Its not the sum of parts, include experience and hassle factor and warranty for unseen installation problems.
No longer a plug and play as they are integrated into the vehicles network.

Re: Stereo Installation for Chevrolet Cavalier Sign In

Thanks for your info on this Kev2. Have been increasingly running into this BUT a total car stereo place is in town - software and all for exactly what it takes to do and use what for a specific set up.
Just common PWR antennas (mast types) a problem and got the end and splicer if needed for common coax type cable with different ends.
What I see now is folks like this just buy what features the suckers can do and products don't tell you (not in sight just looking) if it can work with what's in the box or what?
There's the reason it's specialized complete now with what works and how to do it all on it's own to me anyway for specific no altering adaptors such that it plugs right in to existing car's wiring set up. No bargains either buy from them and worth it.
In short it made it non DIY friendly to a disaster if attempted without all info and parts.
More: The places that sell this crap still and declining really don't care if it's doable to you or not just make the sale. Some went for the repair what was there thing and still ran into problems! No fun with this anymore,
